How we review: this assessment is based on the product’s official documentation, current pricing and published independent evaluations; it is not a hands-on test. Read our review methodology.
Gamma rethinks the slide deck as a scrollable, web-native document that AI can draft for you. Type a prompt or paste notes, and it produces a structured presentation with layouts, images and text; the same engine creates documents, simple websites and social posts. This review assesses what Gamma’s help center and developer documentation describe today.
What it is
Gamma is an AI tool for creating presentations, documents and webpages. Its output — called a “gamma” — is made of cards rather than fixed slides, so it can be shared as a link, presented, published as a site, or exported to PDF or PowerPoint. Our Gamma directory entry offers a quick summary.
Key features
- Generation from a prompt or document. Gamma drafts a full deck or document from a short prompt, notes or pasted text. Plan limits set how many slides one prompt can produce: up to 10 on Free and up to 100 on Plus, according to the help center.
- Gamma 5 agent. Gamma’s developer documentation describes an agent that creates gammas from a prompt — optionally from an approved template — and edits existing ones from natural-language instructions. It does not yet support webpages or multi-page gammas, which use the “Classic” generator.
- Image models. Tiers unlock progressively better image models: basic on Free, advanced on Plus, premium on Pro and “ultra” on Ultra.
- Sites. Pro and Ultra can publish gammas on custom domains — up to 10 sites on Pro and 100 on Ultra — with password protection and viewer analytics.
- API and MCP. Gamma says API keys are “available on all plans, including Free”, with usage limited by credits, and a hosted MCP server works for OAuth-capable AI clients.
- Export. PDF and PowerPoint exports, with editable tables and speaker notes. Google Slides is supported by exporting a PPTX and uploading it.
Pricing
Gamma uses a credit system. At the time of writing (October 2026), its help center lists:
| Plan | Monthly credits | Highlights |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 400 starting credits (no refresh) | Basic image models, up to 10 slides per prompt |
| Plus | 1,000 | Advanced image models, up to 100 slides per prompt, no “Made with Gamma” badge |
| Pro | 4,000 | Premium image models, custom-domain sites, password protection, analytics |
| Ultra | 20,000 | Ultra image models, custom fonts, up to 100 sites, early access |
| Business | Not specified in the article | Separate options for organizations |
Plus, Pro and Ultra are billed per workspace member, and annual plans give the same monthly credits at a 28% discount; Ultra is currently monthly-only at an introductory price. We could not access Gamma’s live pricing page to confirm dollar amounts, and third-party sources disagree, so we have not quoted prices. Check gamma.app/pricing before subscribing.
Strengths
Speed from idea to presentable draft is Gamma’s core value. For a team that needs a client pitch, an internal update or a training deck by the afternoon, generating a structured, well-designed first version in minutes saves hours of layout work. The card-based format also adapts better to phones and links than traditional slides.
The free tier is useful for evaluation. Four hundred starting credits and the ability to generate small decks let people judge the output before paying.
Developer access is unusually open. API keys on every plan and an MCP server mean Gamma can be wired into other tools or AI assistants — for example, to generate a weekly report deck automatically. Few presentation tools offer that at the free level. Our guide to how AI pricing works explains how to estimate what credit-based plans will cost in practice.
Limitations
Exports are where web-native design meets office reality. Gamma’s own help center notes that Google Slides substitutes fonts in exported files, which can change text size and style; slide masters appear blank in PowerPoint; and tables lose their rounded styling when exported as editable. Word export is not supported on any plan. Teams that must deliver native PowerPoint files to clients should plan for clean-up.
Credits limit heavy use. Free credits do not refresh, and generating many decks or using premium image models draws down allowances quickly.
Pricing transparency could be better. Plans are billed per workspace member, Ultra carries an introductory price, and the Business tier is documented separately — so the true cost for a team needs careful checking.
As with any generator, content quality depends on input. AI-drafted slides can contain generic phrasing or inaccurate claims, and should be fact-checked before they reach an audience.
Who it’s for
- Founders, consultants and marketers who need attractive decks quickly.
- Teachers and trainers turning notes into presentation material.
- Teams sharing work as links rather than files.
- Developers wanting to generate decks or documents programmatically.
Alternatives
- Beautiful.ai — AI-assisted slide design with smart templates.
- Canva — presentations inside a full design suite with brand kits.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot — generates decks directly in PowerPoint.
Verdict
Gamma earns 4 out of 5. Its documented strengths — fast generation of decks, documents and sites, a capable editing agent, a usable free tier and API access on every plan — make it one of the most efficient presentation tools available. We deduct a point because exports to PowerPoint and Google Slides need clean-up, credits constrain heavy users, and team pricing requires careful reading.
